OOH LA LAɉ۬
Another great session tonight! We worked on really tuning in to each other, and This Is Home sounded so much better this evening – did you enjoy hearing yourselves back? A few people mentioned at the end how helpful it was.
Then we got our teeth into Beyoncé’s Texas Hold ’Em – lots of words to get your mouth around, and it’s such a fast-paced song! One of the best ways to practise it is simply to go through the lyrics a few times to get familiar with them before adding the tune. We made great progress tonight though, and we’ll be ready to tackle the chorus next week.
We also worked on the middle section of Count on Me, so by the end of the evening we only had the very last line left to learn – nearly there! We did loads of repetition on those harmonies, so please use the recordings to practise during the week.
After a quick break, we looked at the second section of Barbara Ann, focusing on the “oohs”. We’re so close to this one sounding wonderful! I think we’ll start with it next week after some energising warm-ups – it’s really bringing the choir together. It’s sounding so good when it clicks, and although there are still a few searching notes, we’re very nearly there. Tenors, remember to come and stand near me for this one to help with your tricky harmony.
Of course, I couldn’t end the evening without another little visit to The Chain (Fleetwood Mac). Like I said tonight, think of this one as a patchwork quilt – it’s long and complex, so we’ll break it into small sections, really learn them, and then knit them together slowly. I absolutely love this song, and I think it’s going to be one of those we’ll really enjoy performing once it’s polished.
We finished with our lovely round Ooh la la lay – another evening fades away…
Can you believe that was our 4th session this term already? Doesn’t time fly!
B 😊
