HAPPY HARMONIES
My focus for this term has really been on harmony. Harmony as a group of people who all gather together on Monday nights, leaving whatever has happened during the day at the door and joining for some wonderful singing. We have also been working on our singing harmony – not always easy, especially when learning unfamiliar songs or even when we’re singing very familiar songs but singing different tunes! This takes practice, patience and hard work and I think our warm-ups this evening really worked some magic as we progressed to singing Barbara Ann . The Beach Boys were famous for their close knit harmonies and really are a pleasure to sing. A good way to practice is to listen to some popular favourite songs that have very obvious harmonies in them such as Bohemian Rhapsody, I’m yours, any Everley Brother song, in fact you could just google easy songs to sing along in harmony. Then listen to the song and try and pick out the tune and any harmonies and try to sing along. The no 1 rule – know your starting note, and sing it with confidence.
We did some more great work crocheting our first ‘grannie square’ of The Chain. Ooh it’s going to sound so great and you will feel such a sense of achievement when we get it!

NAME THAT TUNE – I want to know what songs you love, is there a song you would really like to sing in the choir? Now be realistic – you might love hard rock, but be honest, can we really sing that? Think about a song that you know inside out, that you have listened to again and again and love to sing along to…. Let me know. We could just sing it for fun with no harmonies, or I might be able to find us a cracking arrangement to purchase for us to learn. Please don’t bombard me with a million songs, really take some time thinking about this, it would be lovely to have one or two songs, chosen by you, to sing next year. Also, please remember to dig out your Christmas songs from last year. In particular I believe, which we will revisit next week, just to remind ourselves of the song ready to work on.
Texas Hold ‘Em – coming along nicely – remember this one is for a laugh – let your hair down and let me hear a yeeha! It was great hearing you singing it along with the recording, We’re ready to move on to the next section – One step to the left…. We need loads of energy for this one, it’s essential to keep it moving and we move quick!
Another fast moving song is Count on Me, which we moved on to, we’ve basically finished learning this one except for the very last line, so let’s start with this one next week. Put it on in the car on the way to choir to get yourselves into the mood!
Can you believe next week is the last in this block? We’re not taking a break this term though, so subs of £35 will be due on or before the 3rd November which will take us up to December 15th!
Oh and the good news which I forgot to tell you is, that all being well with me and my shoulder, we have secured the hall up to the end of the summer term, so no worries at all for the new year.
See you next week ☺
