HOME, WHERE WE BELONG!

So lovely to be back in the hall on Monday evening. We welcomed a new tenor – the lovely Andrea, who thoroughly enjoyed her first evening, and felt so welcome.

So we started off the session with the lovely “This is home, where we belong” a simple little four part song with a very apt and important message in these current times. Everybody is welcome at Open Door Choir in this breath, this heart, this voice, this song…. We will continue with this as an opener for the next few weeks, really working on dynamics, tone and feeling.

We then started to work on the Bruno Mars song “COUNT ON ME’ – you won’t have learning tracks for this one (unless at some time I record some!) but you should be able to practice using the session recording. There’s also a YouTube link here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1YnKoleKuGE which is a very basic demonstration of the arrangement. I have sheet music for this one for sale should anyone want the dots – just ask at the next session. We just need to split into 3 equal groups, so once you’ve picked your group remember to move into whichever one you’re in when we start practicing it. It’s a nice way to mingle ☺

After the break we had a listen to Beyonce’s TEXAS HOLD 'EM, which we will start work on next week, and then had a quick go at BARBARA ANN – oopsie! I forgot to press record until we were finishing Barbara Ann – my bad… We then had a tiny taster of another song we will be learning this term THE CHAIN… to finish off with. We played the whole arrangement at the end of the session – it’s so good I can’t wait to get our teeth into it!

If you missed this week please try and have a listen to the recordings so you can catch up, if you’re on holiday over the next couple of weeks, please try and catch up each week to help you join back in when you’re back and have a great holiday!

Next week we are going to work on getting into our heads….. our head voices – this applies to each and every one of you, as we need to lift the basses an octave, and prove to the altos and sops that they can get up to C and beyond – it’s gonna be fun ☺ Bx
