AMAZING WHAT WE CAN DO IN JUST 6 WEEKS!
Sounds like one of those fad diet plans doesn’t it? But listening through to this week’s session whilst I was cooking a shepherd’s pie, I actually had to remind myself that all the songs we were singing this evening we only began back on the 22nd September – that’s just 6 weeks, and several of you, whether due to sickness or holidays have only been to three or four of those sessions. Please do try and have a listen to yourselves this week. Are we perfect? – well no, of course we’re not, but boy oh boy are there some practically perfect moments that pop up through the session. I think we really made a lot of headway on Count on Me this week, if you missed this session, please, please, please listen through to the recording, as we iron out lot of niggling little bits that were tripping you up. Repetition was the name of the game tonight, and we just got better and better. If you go right to the end of Part one at 1:07:01 – the last time we sing through the beginning section of The Chain – is wow! Just wow!
Barbara Ann is so nearly there, I know greens, you are still finding it hard to find your start note, so little idea for next week, why don’t you come up and stand by me, just like the purples did for The Chain, this week, a) it might help find that note and b) it’s such a great place to stand and really hear the rest of the choir!

A big Happy Happy Birthday to our lovely Mary this week – hope you enjoyed our rendition of Oleo! And a quiet, secret happy birthday to Open Door Choir’s very own Trudie – who likes to keep that sort of thing quiet….. And of course Happy Halloween – very funny watching you all trying to find your respective groups around the room as we finished this evening’s session singing “Have you seen the Ghost of John”.

I’ve asked Ellie to put up the full version and the learning tracks to ‘Only Remembered’ a lovely hymn-like song written to commemorate the end of the First World War and used in the stage play of Warhorse, that we are going to learn over the next couple of weeks. No need to print out song sheets as I will bring them, but I thought some of you might like a little head-start, or maybe just a few listen throughs.

We’ve had a couple of lovely song suggestions for next term, I will be putting them to you to vote on, so please get any more suggestions to me via WhatsApp asap, to give me time to research any arrangements, and also to assess whether I think it’s something we can learn to sing – please don’t be offended if your song isn’t selected for the vote, it doesn’t mean we won’t sing it at all, it just might not be suitable as an arrrangement. Subs of £35 are due next week, which will take us all the way up to the 15th December and our little Christmas gathering – if you have any ideas or suggestions for our annual xmas knees up, let’s talk about it over the next few weeks. You’re all lovely, thank you for your kindness and patience with me whilst I battle this bloomin’ shoulder pain, you’re support and understanding is unmeasurable.
Keep singing ☺ B x
