GREAT DAY!
What a great day – and the sun was shining too! I can’t believe we’ve already been back for three weeks. I hope you enjoyed our tricky little counting warm-up this evening… I might try it in four parts next time, just to raise the bar a little higher! (evil laugh…)
We then dug out an oldie but a goldie – Rise Up! – to give us all a bit of a boost, some merriment, and a welcome escape from all the gloomy news out there. Singing really is wonderful for releasing those happy endorphins and busting stress – it’s why we do it 😊
Next session, let’s have a go at Belle Marguerite (this week’s singer’s choice), so have a rummage through your old folders. We sang this at our very first concert nearly three years ago! I’ll bring some spare copies for anyone who needs one.
As we take a little break next week for the Spring Bank Holiday, we can already give ourselves a pat on the back for making such a jolly good start on our new song You Are the Reason, and for nearly finishing Where the Sun Don’t Shine.
If I get the chance over the next few days, I might record myself singing the different parts for these songs to help you. But in the meantime, please try and use this session’s recording to go over what we learned this evening. I’m hoping that on Monday week (11th May), after a bit more work on Where the Sun Don’t Shine, we can do a fun recording to send off as our entry to the Staysure competition. So feel free to bring any props you think might suit the song – big sun hats, silly glasses, wine (!), gardening gloves, etc. – and, if you’re up for it, wear some bright, fun colours. This really is just for fun, as we’ve only had a couple of weeks to learn it, so please don’t worry. If any of the harmonies feel tricky, just stick with the melody – there is absolutely ZERO pressure. If we are not happy with it yet, we just won’t send it, but it will definitely be a great song to have in our repertoire for when we get out and about.
The harmonies for the chorus of You Are the Reason we're sounding fabulous! This is exactly what we can sound like all the time with a bit of practice and a good dose of confidence. As always, please sing out loud and proud – the best way to learn the notes is to sing them, right or wrong! If you’re not singing, you’re not learning. Wrong notes are all part of the journey… laugh them off and try again.
Have a fab Bank Holiday weekend – fingers crossed for some lovely weather! But remember: do what’s expected, do what’s right, stay at home, and have early nights… 😉
See you on the 11th.
