YOU ARE MY REASON
What a lovely evening! Gosh, we worked hard, but the time flew by and we got so much done, despite being a slightly smaller group than usual.
Firstly, apologies – we forgot to bring the recorder this week, so we did our best with our phones instead. That’s why there are three separate recordings to listen to. Hopefully, you’ll still get the gist of everything we covered.
After warming up with Haida adding some fun body percussion (to be continued….), we revisited the start of The Chain, so please keep listening to the learning tracks to help build your confidence with that section.
We then cracked on with the tricky part of You Are the Reason. I feel we made some real headway, and I’m confident that another couple of sessions will have us singing it note-perfect. Next week, we’ll focus on that transition. As someone pointed out, once we’ve mastered this section, we’re so close to the end of the learning stage. We’re nearly at the exciting point where we can start working on the performance of the piece rather than just learning the notes.
We finished the evening with Banaha in an attempt to bring the sunshine back – fingers crossed it works!
For those who weren’t there this week, we discussed Open Door Choir being special guests at a concert for my other choir, Sing Your Heart Out, at the Selsey Centre on Saturday 7th November, 1.30pm–5.00pm. There was a great show of hands from those interested, and we’ll talk about it in more detail next week. In the meantime, please pop the date in your diary, as once we’ve agreed to perform, it’s difficult to back out.
The plan is for Open Door Choir to perform a short set of two songs on our own, as well as joining Sing Your Heart Out for some absolute belters in the second half of the concert. There will also be a paying bar and food provided by the choirs for an after-show party.
Finally, we have a few members of our choir family going through some tough times at the moment, and the support you continue to show one another is incredibly heart-warming. I’ve always tried to create a safe space within my choirs – somewhere we can leave our troubles at the door for a little while, recharge our batteries, smile, laugh, maybe shed a tear, and simply be together.
We really are one big choir family.
You are my reason.
