BOOM!
It’s amazing how quickly two hours can fly when you’re having fun. We kicked off the evening with a brilliant beatboxing warm-up to wake us all up, followed by a bit of social time—welcoming Marie, our new tenor, and going over names. Although you’re grouped as sopranos (reds), altos (greens), tenors (purples) and basses (blues), together we make one lovely choir, and it’s great to get to know each other across the room. (If you’re using the session recording for practice, you might want to skip this section—jump to around 24:20 for the start of the new song.)
We then got straight into learning the first half of our new song, Where the Sun Don’t Shine. The plan is to finish it next week and even have a go at recording it. If we get it performance-ready, the competition entry deadline is
11th May, so I’d love to give us two chances at it. Please do use the session recording to practise, as there aren’t any separate learning tracks for this one. I’ve also included the notes here if you’d find it helpful to print them off.
After the break, we returned to our other beautiful piece, You Are the Reason, which is coming along really nicely. Do keep listening to the YouTube version, and use the session recordings to help consolidate what we’ve covered. If you’re finding the sheet music tricky, please let me know—I’m very happy to help you highlight your part (just bring a highlighter along). You’re also welcome to write or type out the lyrics if that works better for you. I’d hate anyone to feel put off by the dots and lines!
We finished with this week’s song bank choice—Da Doo Ron Ron! Don’t forget to check the list if you’d like to pick next week’s song. It’s first come, first served—just pop your choice on the WhatsApp group. No squabbling! Once it’s chosen, it’s taken. You’re very welcome to add new songs too, but if no one else knows it… you might find yourself with an unexpected solo 😉
A quick reminder that we’re offering free trial sessions for the rest of this month and next, so if you know anyone who might be interested—friends, colleagues, sports club pals—please spread the word. We’re especially keen to welcome more sopranos and men! I also have flyers available if you know of anywhere we could display them.
Have a great week, and see you next Monday!
